Berries, berries, berries. What foods are in fact berries, and which aren't? What you're about to learn next will blow your mind.
A berry, by definition, is a fleshy fruit produced from a single flower and containing one ovary. This means that the seeds have to be on the inside of fleshy part of the berry.
So, following this definition, strawberries aren't berries...while bananas are. And avocados. And grapes. And coffee beans. These are all berries, whereas strawberries aren't even an actual fruit. Strawberries are considered accessory fruits, or also known as "false fruits."
Pretty spiffy, right?
Well, here's another mind blowing fact. Apples aren't fruit. They aren't berries either. In fact, while apples are healthy, to get the real fruit, you need to dig into that poisonous core.
Is your mind blown yet? If not...here are some examples of berries.
-Avocado
-Banana
-Pumpkin
-Tomato
-Watermelon
-Grapes
-Coffee
-Persimmon
-Strawberry Tree (not strawberries)
-Currants
So next time you eat berries, you'll know what they are.
